Starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, produced by Leonardo Di Caprio, and directed by Brad Furman, Runner Runner is a thriller that takes place in the world of online gambling. Screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien—whose 1998 thriller, Rounders, involved high-stakes backroom poker—wrote the screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin this summer in Puerto Rico.
Today, the first of four casting calls drew hundreds of Puerto Ricans of all ages to audition in Hato Rey. The government expects to see about 35 million dollars go towards the island’s economy. [Also see previous post More Filmmakers Set to Film in Puerto Rico.]
Justin Timberlake (who arrived in Puerto Rico on Friday) and Ben Affleck (who is expected this week) will stay about two months, filming around on the island. So far, the towns where the crew will be filming include Carolina, San Juan, Loíza, Fajardo, Arecibo, and Ceiba, among others.
