Ten cities as venues, six foreign groups visiting Cuba for the first time and 11 Cuban plays mark Mayo Teatral 2012, an event promoted by Casa de las Americas to run May 3-13. In a press conference, the Head of the Theater Department of Casa de as Americas, Vivian Martínez, said that these new elements respond to the need to renew the repertoire they offer in every event in order to guarantee a broad, diverse, representative sample of Latin American and Caribbean theatre.
Groups from Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Brazil and Mexico will offer performances, with stars including Dominican actress Maria Isabel Bosch.
Cuban groups like Argos Teatro, Teatro de la Luna and Teatro El Publico will pay tribute to famous playwright Virgilio Piñera on occasion of his 100th birthday anniversary.
