Dominican-American visual artist Julia Santos-Solomon will present her work at New York City’s Affordable Art Fair 2012. This fair is advertised as “shaking up the dusty model of art as an elite pastime,” showcasing new artists, galleries, programming, and installations. The art fair takes place at 7 West 34th Street (near 5th Avenue) from April 18-22, 2012.
Julia Santos-Solomon is a multi-faceted artist creating paintings, sculpture, drawings and mixed media. The bright colors of the Caribbean landscape are an important vehicle for her expression. Her work was featured in the art publications New Art International 2004 and Acrylic Revolution 2007. Santos-Solomon was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the United States. After attending the High School of Art and Design in New York, she continued her studies at the Rhode Island School of Design, Rome, Italy (with RISD’s European Honor’s Program), and Brown University. Over the course of three years, she discovered her kinship with the Italian Renaissance masters. The Italian light awakened her palette and inspired a series of Caribbean landscapes. She became a founding member of The Altos de Chavon School of Design, a Parsons School affiliate, in the Dominican Republic. She moved back to the United States and taught at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan for 18 years. In 1996, she moved to Woodstock, NY where she currently resides.
At the Affordable Art Fair, Santos-Solomon is represented by the Julio Valdez Studio at Booth F 9. See schedule below:
