Viequenses and Culebrenses invite the public to the vigil “Two Islands, One Voice”—a call to improve ferry service between Culebra and Vieques and the main island of Puerto Rico. People will congregate at the Pabellón de la Paz [Peace Pavilion] in Luis Muñoz Rivera Park (in San Juan, Puerto Rico) on Monday, January 30, at 6:00pm.
Description: Residents of the island municipalities of Vieques and Culebra are constantly faced with the challenge of daily life and work by visits to the “Big Island.” By the same token, we depend on all those who visit us daily, to keep our economy and our families.
For years, we have suffered the insensitivity, instability, and lack of vision of an agency that ignores our needs. For residents of the Big Island, obtaining these services is routine, but we, the travelers of Route 252, have to deal with the anxiety of an obsolete transport system—slow, incompetent, and dehumanizing
that makes these trips become a daily ordeal. We have all experienced how exasperating it is to deal with the Vieques-Culebra Marine Transportation Service, so there is an urgent need to unite our voices and
efforts in order to be heard.
Please join us at the peaceful Monumental Vigil “Two Islands, One Voice” to protest the abysmal transportation service offered by the Maritime Transportation Authority. We should all come together in
a vigil of fraternization with our Puerto Rican brother and sisters to expose the problems of maritime transportation services and how this affects the quality of daily life in the island municipalities.
