The International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban 5 [Comité Internacional por la Libertad de los 5 Cubanos) is calling for a simple collective action—“El 5 de enero por los Cinco”—for the five imprisoned Cubans on January 5, 2012. They are asking people from all locations to send an e-mail, a fax, or to make a phone call to President Obama to request the immediate release of Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio and Fernando and to allow René returned to Cuba with his wife and daughters.
The group says, “President Obama knows that ‘the Five’ are innocent. It has been said by intellectuals, religious leaders, trade unionists, students, actors, and artists, parliamentarians, Nobel Prize winners, and thousands of honest people from all parts of the world. He can and must put an end to 13 years of injustice. Only this way, can he win the respect of the international community that is waiting for a humanitarian gesture that will allow for the return of the Cuba Five to their loved ones.”
