9 Haitian authors shortlisted for the Carbet Prize

The 2011Carbet Prize for Caribbean literature 2011 will be awarded Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Cayenne, French Guiana [See our earlier post at The 22nd Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde (the first without Edouard Glissant). Among the eighteen candidates for this 22nd edition, Haitian writers are out in force, with nine nominees. Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cuba, Jamaica and mainland France share the rest of the nominations, as HaitiLibre.com reports.
Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Quebec and Tunisia are represented in the jury. During this literary week, permanent members of the jury and their guests, including novelists Simone Schwartz-Bart (Guadeloupe) and Evelyne Trouillot (Haiti, the 2010 Prize winner), will discuss literature and culture in several high schools in Cayenne and Kourou, as well as at the University of Antilles-Guyane.
