2011 Toronto International Film Festival Selects “Doubles with Slight Pepper”

Ian Harnarine’s “Doubles with Slight Pepper” has been selected winner of the award for Best Canadian Short Film at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. “Doubles with Slight Pepper” (Canada/Trinidad & Tobago/USA) centers on the relationship between a father and the son he left behind in Trinidad.

Description: Dhani’s father left him with little more than a street-food cart in Trinidad and a broken promise for a better life in Canada. Old wounds linger when the older man returns one Christmas with a request. Poetic dialogue and compelling characters shape this story of the contemporary immigrant experience. First-time writer/director Ian Harnarine delivers a truly authentic humanist portrait of a fractured family, through simple intimate storytelling.
