Art Exhibition: Uniarte’s Showcase of Dutch Caribbean Artists

Uniarte is sponsoring their first “Meet & Greet” to showcase artists from the Dutch Caribbean, on Friday November 25, 2011, from 7:00pm until 11:00pm, in Amsterdam. The event will take place at Heesterveld (H-spot) #75, Amsterdam Zuidoost (directions: Metro Amsterdam Central in the direction of Gein, stop at Bullewijk). This event is free and open to the public.

The event includes spoken word, theater, films, sculptures, paintings, and photography by Dutch Caribbean artists. Holly Bynoe writes, “The goal of this night is to introduce the audience to various art forms displayed and performed by numerous emerging artists from the Dutch Caribbean. Also, Uniarte would like to make use of the opportunity to expose Dutch Caribbean people in a positive light, which is especially important following the changes with regard to the status of these islands within the Kingdom.”

Uniarte aims to unite Dutch Caribbean artists and promote their work, but also to create a general awareness of art among Dutch and Caribbean communities, and in particular art from emerging artists from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St Eustatius, and St Martin/Sint Maarten.
