Curaçao is in the middle of its great Curaçao Heineken Regatta 2011 this weekend. Thirty-three yachts participate in the fourth edition of the largest sailing and entertainment event in Curaçao. The Regatta this year is characterized by the color green, not only of the “home” color but also of Green Force, the company that is trying to get help the island on its way to an environmentally conscious and recycling-minded lifestyle.
Last night, the Small Yard (Klein Werf) of the Scharlookade hosted the first concert of the Regatta Festival with performances of the local groups Dreams and Area 51 and UK/Jamaica reggae king Maxi Priest. The second concert will be held tonight with one of the pioneers of reggaeton, Tito “El Bambino,” who will be preceded on stage by Elvis Crespo, also from Puerto Rico, and local stars Ephrem J and Enmeris.
Saturday and Sunday will be full of large and small boat racing, including beachcats, windsurfers, and other regatta activities. A highlight will be the great Illuminated Boat Parade at sunset today (Saturday, November 12, 2011, 6:30pm). On Sunday at 6:00pm there will be the final prize-awarding ceremony.
