BVI Fungi Group Lashing Dogs’ new CD

Longtime local fungi group, The Lashing Dogs has released a new CD ‘A Fun-Filled Fungi Night’ as a dedication to its fans, reports.
George Lewis, Musical Director and lead singer of the nine-member band told BVI Platinum News that the CD which has 11 tracks is geared towards giving back to its fans for their continued support over the years.
The Lashing Dogs is a musical group that plays fungi music, a style of music played mostly with traditional instruments. In the old days, fungi music was played on non-amplified instruments that were all locally created from whatever materials were available.
George said the band has put together a mixture of fungi style songs to show their appreciation, noting that the song ‘Everybody Tight’ is a direct tribute to the fans.
George who is also the base player for the band, said there are songs for everyone including calypso, traditional folk and reggae, among others. He said they are all mixed with a fungi style.
He explained that the band which has been around for over 25 years has their own recording facility. He said currently they are working on other songs and are preparing for several gigs.
He stated that the band is also working on a website.
The band has been together for over 25 years and has performed in Europe, several US states and across the Caribbean. The band is well-known for producing “music to make you move”, but also often provide social commentary, amusing songs and songs that “make you think”.
The current band members are Kenton Callwood – lead & backing vocals, Cromwell Forbes – steel, lead and backing vocals, Lincoln Hedrington – banjo/ukulele, Varrisse Hodge – squash, George Lewis – bass, lead & backing vocals, Ottley Rhymer – conga drum and backing vocals, Ariel Smith – guitar and backing vocals, Elton Smith – banjo, and Kayron Todman – banjo and percussion.
