Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres and actor/rapper/songsmith Lin-Manuel Miranda are in Puerto Rico to film “200 Cartas,” a bilingual romantic comedy.
The cast also includes Jaime Camil, Iris Chacón, Nydia Velázquez, Juan Manuel Lebrón, Luis Raul, Mayra Matos, Otilio Warrington and Victor Alicea.
Puerto Rico-born Torres and the “Nuyorican” Miranda – winner of a Tony Award as composer and lyricist of the hit Broadway musical “In the Heights” – discussed the film Thursday at a press conference in San Juan.
“I received many proposals that didn’t work for me, but when I read the screenplay of this film, I quickly wanted to do this audition,” the 37-year-old former beauty queen said.
Torres, the ex-wife of singer and actor Marc Anthony, began her film career within a year of winning the Miss Universe crown in 1993.
“The screenplay was perfect for me,” said the 31-year-old Miranda, who, like the film’s protagonist, “Raul,” was born in New York to Puerto Rican parents. EFE
