Amy Winehouse St Lucia Adoption Rumor Has No Truth

It’s amazing how rumors begin and take off like wild fire, reports

The Sunday Mirror reported that Amy Winehouse planned to adopt a girl from the island of St. Lucia. Yet, her rep states that the rumor is not true. The buzz began about a week after the 27-year old singer was found dead in her London home on July 23, 2011.

Dannika Augustine, 10 years old, was living in poverty with her single mother and met Winehouse during one of her many visits to the island. She told the Sunday Mirror “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me … She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

In recent years, Winehouse spent extensive periods of time on the Caribbean island, apparently meeting Dannika in 2009. According to Dannika’s grandmother, Marjorie Lambert, Winehouse had recently hired lawyers to complete the adoption process and that she planned to be back inSt. Lucia this month.

Reports claim that Dannika’s separated parents, Nadia Germaine and Vic Augustine (resides in Germany) signed off on the adoption plans hoping that their daughter would have a better life since they were both unemployed and financially strapped. Winehouse’s rep believes she might have met Dannika but in no way was going to adopt her.
