Today, August 1, 2011, at 8:00pm, the World Reggae Dance Championship Finals will take place in Kingston and St Andrew, Jamaica. Eliminations for the 2011 World Reggae Dance Championship began on June 17.
The World Reggae Dance Championship is sponsored by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission. Since 2006, the World Reggae Dance Championship aims to provide exposure to young adults who are skilled in the areas of reggae and dancehall dance expressions. The organizers hope that that the exposure gained in the growing industry of dancehall entertainment will provide and create job opportunities in video production, advertising and shows both locally and internationally. Through the years, the championship has had more and more international participation; this year’s participants include a troupe from Japan, among the varied representation.
