Cache Royale Featured in Curaçao’s Flag Day Festivities

On July 2, 2011, as part of the festivities of Curaçao’s Dia di Bandera [Flag Day], the student group Cache Royale will be performing in a sold out concert at Willemstad’s World Trade Center. The popular group also celebrates the tenth anniversary since its founding. All present and past band members will play during the concert.

Band leader and co-founder Archel Calister explains that it was 2001 when he and two other students decided to form a band: “We decided to form a small student band. In less than three weeks there was a twelve piece orchestra.” Success came quickly for the group. Calister says, “We focused mainly on us scholarship students from Curaçao. We got all talents from there for Cache.” The group is not exclusively constituted with musicians from Curaçao; for example, one of the musicians is from Aruba.

The repertoire of Cache Royale (also known as Cache Deluxe) consists of their own compositions as well as versions of well-known hits; and, according to Calister, the group has had 136 hits in ten years.  Some of these include the Surinamese hit “A Garden in My Heart,” which they have translated into Papiamento. They perform other well-known Caribbean hits, some of which are performed in both Papiamento and English.
