Librería Mágica and Colectivo Literario Homoerótica are sponsoring, “Tinta de Sidario,” a reading focusing on how Puerto Rican literature has represented AIDS/HIV through the past three decades. The activity will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 7:00pm at Librería Mágica, which is located at 1013 Ponce de León Avenue in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico.
Description: On June 5, 1981 the CDC warned of a “rare pneumonia called pneumocystis affecting young gay men” without knowing then that they were announcing the pandemic that would later be known as AIDS or knowledge of the HIV virus. This reading is intended to give an account of how Puerto Rican authors have dealt with the issue. The event will feature an introduction by Dr. Rubén Ríos-Avila and the participation of three actors—Iliana García, Gil René Rodríguez and Miguel Diffoot—each reading three texts. The authors represented are: Moisés Agosto Rosario, Karen Sevilla, Luis Negrón, David Caleb Acevedo, Lina Nieves, Ángel Antonio Ruiz, Julio A. García, Nemir Matos Cintrón, and Manuel Ramos Otero.
