The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) is hosting the 3rd Annual Jazz Experience from April 23 through May 1, 2011, including an eclectic mix of local, regional and international artists performing at various events throughout the island. The festival features legendary jazz musicians Joe Sample and Randy Crawford as well as a younger generation of performers such as R&B sensation, Trey Songz.
The first event on Saturday, April 23 at 4:00pm is “Jazz in the East,” held in the village of Speyside. This event features jazz traditionalist Ruth Osman and showcases various music styles such as soca and reggae. On Sunday, April 24 at 4:00pm, “Hillside Jazz” takes place at Signal Hill Recreational Ground. In addition to highlighting some of Tobago’s leading performers, audiences will also get a chance to experience “Sunday School,” Tobago’s “best street party.”
On April 25 and 26, patrons will get a rare glimpse at the art of Tobagonian goat racing. On Wednesday, April 27 at 6:00pm, jazz enthusiasts will enjoy “Jazz on the Waterfront.” Held at the Scarborough Esplanade, the event features a variety of musical acts and is designed to give patrons a New Orleans inspired jazz experience with a lineup that includes Lynette Louis and Marcus Steele.
The party continues with “World Music Night” at Pigeon Point Heritage Park on Thursday, April 28 at 7:30pm. With headlining international superstar, Trey Songz, this event features a variety of genres from an array of artists. For a night of “Pan and Jazz,” courtesy of Pantrinbago, pan-lovers can head to Pigeon Point Heritage Park on Friday, April 29. Joe Sample and Randy Crawford will join traditional and contemporary jazz artists to close the Tobago Jazz Experience on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 at the “Beach Jazz Fiesta,” beginning at 4:00pm at Pigeon Point.
