Cuban-American rapper Pitbull (shown above) and Puerto Rican reggaetón singer Don Omar (below) will join Mexican groups Camila, Banda El Recodo, and Maná at the Billboard Latin Music Awards gala taking place on April 28, 201, in Miami, Florida.
These artists’ participation in the gala will be broadcast live on Telemundo. Singer, producer, and songwriter Pitbull—whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez—is a candidate for seven Billboard Latin, including the Social 50, Latin Artist of the Year, and Latin Digital Download of the Year. Pitbull’s album Armando became number two on the Billboard Top Latin Albums list.
Puerto Rican Singer Don Omar is nominated for six awards this year. His successful single “Danza Kuduro” (with Lucenzo) has remained the longest as the number one single on the 2011 Billboard Hot Latin Songs. [It should be noted that “Danza Kuduro” is the Spanish language version of Luso-French singer Lucenzo’s 2010 “Vem dançar kuduro” and that “kuduro” is an Angolan rhythm.]
The seminal rock band Maná, winner of nine Billboard awards and selling over 25 million records worldwide, will be featured at the gala. Also from Mexico, the groups Banda El Recodo and Camila are competing for quite a few prizes this year. Banda El Recodo, which is a finalist for four awards, will bring to the stage traditional sounds from their latest album Me gusta todo de ti, which includes the hits “Dime que me quieres” and “Me gusta todo de ti.” Camila competes for ten awards this year. In 2010, the group achieved great success with the singles Mientes,” “Aléjate de mí,” and “Bésame,” from the album Dejarte de Amar, reaching number one on Billboard Latin Pop Airplay charts. The album was number one on the Billboard Top Latin albums chart and Latin Pop Albums in United States.
Since I admit an aversion to the video of “Danza Kuduro,” here is my preferred version: the original “Vem dançar kuduro” (although Big Ali could have lowered the volume a bit):
