Heidi J. Figueroa Sarriera’s Infusiones/Infusions: Estampas itinerantes de mi tratamiento de cáncer/ Itinerant portraits of my cancer treatment (2011) is a bold project that attempts to interpret and re-signify the author’s experience with cancer in order to share it with others.
In 2007 the author was diagnosed with breast cancer. This immediately unleashed an unexpected frenzy of trips to medical examinations, surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which changed the usual order of her life at so many levels. The fundamental motive for writing this book was the need to express with words and images this profound existential experience. This book is written in Spanish and English.
Heidi J. Figueroa Sarriera is a social psychologist who teaches at the University of Puerto Rico- Río Piedras. Her research focuses on technologies, the body, and subjectivity. She is also an amateur photographer.
