Shanty Vibes writes that “Iyaz represents the Virgin Islands with what he calls ‘Island Pop.’” Keidran Jones (1987), better known by his stage name Iyaz, is a singer/rapper from the Virgin Islands, a fairly new artist recording with Time is Money/Beluga Heights Records, a record label owned by Warner Bros. Born into a musical family on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Iyaz grew up on Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
His 2009 debut single “Replay” became a hit at number one on the Mediabase “Top 40” U.S. radio airplay chart and number two on the Billboard “Hot 100.” Internationally, it was number one in Australia and the UK. Iyaz’s latest single is “So Big.”
Iyaz studied digital recording and recorded “Island Girls,” a radio success on the islands of Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Martin, and Tortola. He was contacted by Sean Kingston and was soon recording with the Beluga Heights Records label.
Iyaz and Kingston have both stated that they are part of a new genre of music called “Island Pop.”
