Tributes continue to pour in for the late Professor Barry Chevannes.
Jamaica’s Minister of Education, Andrew Holness, while expressing condolences to his family, friends and the UWI community, says the entire ministry staff regretted the passing of the Professor. He said Professor Chevannes’s long and distinguished service to education is testament to his enduring belief in academic excellence and nation building. He noted that Chebannes’ his passing, so soon after the death of the late Rex Nettleford, is a significant blow to the intellectual reservoir of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
The Education Minister recalled that through his writings, lectures and community-based projects, the late Professor demonstrated an unwavering commitment to building a better society.
Professor Chavannes was hospitalized on September 4 after he complained that he was in pain. He died on Friday, November 5, 2010.
