In a ceremony at the ALBA Cultural Center in Havana, Cuban singer Silvio Rodríguez said donating the DVDs to the Nido para Angeles (Nest of Angels) foundation was the best way to return the love and affection he has always received from the Dominican people. Nido Para Angeles’ President Monika Despradel thanked Rodríguez for the gesture on behalf of the leaders of the foundation and its children. Despradel said the money collected from the sale of the DVDs will enable 120 children affected by cerebral palsy on a waiting list to receive treatment. She noted that in her country, more than eight percent of the population suffers cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term encompassing a group of non-progressive, non-contagious motor conditions that cause physical disability in human development, chiefly in the various areas of body movement.
In return for Rodríguez action, the foundation’s board of directors named him Guardian Angel of the institution.
The concert on the DVDs was offered by Rodríguez for free at the Quisqueya stadium, accompanied by his musicians and the Travarroco Trio.
It includes more than 20 songs, among them “Escaramujo,” “Playa Girón,” “La era está pariendo un corazón,” “Días y flores,” “La gaviota” and “La masa.”
