The 2010 Haiti Design Showcase, coming to the Museum of Art and Design in Manhattan today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., is all about artistry, innovation and the works of Haitian designers and artists from the island nation and New York City.
The Aksyon Inc. and Haitian Roundtable organizations are presenting the affair, which will begin with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. hosted by celebrity photographer Marc Baptiste and featuring a musical performance by Hervé Aimable.
Among the designers displaying works are David Andre (men’s wear and women’s wear), Bendino (textile-surface), Myrlande Buissereth (children’s wear), Denis Dambreville (home décor), Maule David (women’s wear), Stephanic Gazenard (women’s resort footwear), Victor Glemaud (men’s wear), and Giovanna Menard (women’s accessories).
This exhibition will raise funds to provide grants for Haitian artists getting academic and professional training at New York design schools, support full scholarships for underprivileged Haitian students studying abroad, and underwriting apprenticeships with American designers.
The Museum of Art and Design is at 2 Columbus Circle (between Broadway and Eighth Ave.). For information, call Rita Joseph at
