New Book: Maami and Parpi Daley of Montserrat

Maami and Parpi Daley of Montserrat: Meet the Daleys (2010) is a new book by writer Dorine S. O’Garro, a native of Montserrat who has called New York City home for more than 30 years and whose aim is to promote the island’s rich culture and heritage through her literary works.

Publisher’s description: The serene island of Montserrat serves as the idyllic backdrop for the novel, Maami and Parpi Daley of Montserrat: Meet the Daleys (2010), a heartwarming story that tells the fictional tale of Maggie and Syd Daley, a brother and sister from New York, who have been visiting their paternal grandparents, Maamie and Parpi, at their home in Montserrat since Maggie was six years old. Born in Montserrat, Dorine O’Garro earned her BA and MA degrees in Spanish and French at Hunter College. She has taught Spanish for over thirty years in New York City. After listening to reports of volcanic eruptions in Montserrat, O’Garro decided that she would write about the island she knows well. She is also author of Montserrat on My Mind (2004), Montserrat in the Heart of the Caribbean, America and England (2006), and Miss Tillie (2008).
