Born in Montserrat, Dorine O’Garro earned her BA and MA degrees in Spanish and French at Hunter College. She has taught Spanish for over thirty years in New York City. After listening to reports of volcanic eruptions in Montserrat, O’Garro decided that she would write about the island she knows well. She is also author of Montserrat on My Mind (2004), Montserrat in the Heart of the Caribbean, America and England (2006), and Miss Tillie (2008).
