Published in January 2010, Del cañaveral a la mesa del Rey [From the Sugarcane Fields to the King’s Table] traces the author’s “rags to riches” life story. In a simple but elegant prose, Pedro A. Galarza (Yauco, Puerto Rico, 1924) narrates his humble childhood in the fields of Yauco, his difficult adolescence as worker on a sugarcane plantation, and his move to the capital (San Juan), where his efforts led him to become an important figure in the entrepreneurial scene and well-known public servant, holding some of the most sensitive positions of the Government of Puerto Rico. A successful businessman, advisor to governors and to the Legislative Assembly, president of important associations and boards of directors, Galarza was part of an official delegation that in 1987 led him to sit at the dinner table with the King of Spain.
Published by Editorial Plaza Mayor (2010), this paperback includes thirty-two chapters, written with great honesty and extensively illustrated with photographs from the author’s personal file, collected during the most significant moments of his life.
