A major cultural activity has been planned for tonight at the Vita gate of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (also known as RUM—Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez). The general public is invited to this free concert, which begins at 5:00pm. The concert will be transmitted live through www.ustream.tv/channel/resistenciacolegial.
At the moment, confirmed artists and groups include Fernando Ferrer, Roy Brown, Bomburayo with Patrio Ritmo, Bomba Urbana, Zoraida Santiago, Intifada, Mijo de la Palma, the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez Chorale [Coro del RUM], Teatro Zurdo, Bossa Trova, Sigma (¡Qué vivan los estudiantes!/Long Live the Students!), Industria Satélite, Episódico, Sound System/Desde el Campo, Sound Jazz, Crane the Crisis, Movimiento Campesino, Los Petardos!, and visual arts students from the UPR. More performers are joining the concert as I write.
This event will also transmit information from the National Negotiating Committee and views from the 11 campuses of the University of Puerto Rico system. The concert will be the culminating event after a series of activities that began at 6:15 this morning with a demonstration of the Association of RUM Professors (APPRUM) and will be followed by other protest events throughout the day gathering professors, students, workers, and the public.
