Edward Tellería’s “La pasión del alma” [Passion of the Soul] will open May 20, 2010, at Mesa Fine Art Gallery in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic.
Tellería’s work is rooted in the Caribbean imaginary. Far from reflecting melancholy and sentimentality, each painting provides complex exercise producing contradictory effects on a single plane, unifying background and figures, and resulting in a provocative pictorial whole.
Edward Tellería (Santo Domingo, 1974) completed his MFA at the National School of Fine Arts [Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes] in the Dominican Republic. He specialized in painting, under the supervision of Leopoldo Pérez. Since 1990, the artist has participated in collective and solo exhibitions at home and abroad.
