My students at Marist College (many thanks!) pointed out that I left out another Caribbean performer when I wrote about Benicio del Toro and his participation in the new campaign video The Lazarus Effect for (RED). The actress Michelle Rodríguez also joins major celebrities in this campaign intended to increase awareness and efforts to fight AIDS in Africa. The campaign video (directed by photographer Brigitte Lacombe) has celebrities list items that can be bought for 40 cents, the value of one day’s worth of antiretroviral medication. Rodríguez, who is known for her tough-girl roles, appears popping a brown paper lunch bag, an item that she can buy for 40 cents. The video will be aired on May 24.
