Michelle Rodríguez for (RED): The Lazarus Effect

My students at Marist College (many thanks!) pointed out that I left out another Caribbean performer when I wrote about Benicio del Toro and his participation in the new campaign video The Lazarus Effect for (RED). The actress Michelle Rodríguez also joins major celebrities in this campaign intended to increase awareness and efforts to fight AIDS in Africa. The campaign video (directed by photographer Brigitte Lacombe) has celebrities list items that can be bought for 40 cents, the value of one day’s worth of antiretroviral medication. Rodríguez, who is known for her tough-girl roles, appears popping a brown paper lunch bag, an item that she can buy for 40 cents. The video will be aired on May 24.

Mayte Michelle Rodríguez, better known as Michelle Rodríguez, is the Texas-born daughter of Dominican/Puerto Rican parents. Raised in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and New Jersey, the actress is well known for her role in the television series Lost. She has had significant roles in Hollywood films such as Girlfight, The Fast and the Furious, Blue Crush, Resident Evil, S.W.A.T., Fast & Furious, and more recently, Avatar. She has a leading role in the forthcoming Robert Rodríguez film Machete.
