Aruba to fête Bertolucci

Italian film director Bernardo Bertolucci will receive the Golden Aruba award for outstanding achievement in film from the inaugural Aruba Film Festival, which runs June 4 to 11. Bertolucci will travel to the Caribbean island, 17 miles off the coast of Venezuela, to receive the new festival’s most prestigious award as well as participate in its “In Conversations With” series alongside celebs led by U. S. actor Richard Gere and Mexican director Guillermo Arriaga. Gere is also receiving a humanitarian award and hosting the festival, which will showcase a mix of indie and Hollywood films plus panels and workshops. The Festival is backed by government funding and sponsor donations and is organized by Aruba Film Prods.

Italian producer Giuseppe Cioccarelli and local filmmaker Jonathan Vieira are the festival’s producers.
