After a three-year absence from French stages, the Cuban National Ballet (CNB) returns to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso. Sponsored by the Centre des arts (CDA) of Enghien-les-Bains, a major cultural center just outside of Paris, Alonso’s prestigious company will perform “Giselle” on April 23 at the Centre des arts (12-16 rue de la libération) and on April 24 at the Théâtre du Casino (3 avenue de la Ceinture).
The event organizers have expressed the great honor it is that “the city of Enghien was chosen to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Mme Alicia Alonso exclusively in France” in a “vibrant tribute” to this “living legend of dance and inspiration for new generations,” who has performed on the most prestigious stages worldwide. This internationally renowned choreographer and dancer, known for her imposing style, has left an indelible marked in the world of dance. The CNB’s versions of major classical ballets have been performed at the Opéra national de Paris, the Vienna Opera, the San Carlo of Naples, the Prague Opera, and Milan’s Scala Theatre, among others.
