Gens de la Caraibe announces that in the context of the major fair known as the Book Salon of Paris [Salon du Livre de Paris] taking place from March 26-31, 2010, the Overseas Ministry will gather over ten publishers, artists, and over 100 authors from Haiti, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Mayotte, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Reunion, St. Barths, St. Martin, and more, in a series of meetings, conversations, lecture, book signings, and exhibitions entitled “Terres d’océan” [Ocean Lands or Lands of the Ocean]. The Salon du Livre will take place at Porte de Versailles in Paris, France.
Novels, essays, poetry, youth and children’s literature, comic books, and all forms of literary expression will be represented in this space. Imagined around the topic “Ocean Lands,” the organizers invite authors, editors, and artists to discuss the concepts of transmission, traditions, and environmental preservation of territories—of “lands that are nothing without the ocean.”
Writers include Suzanne Dracius, Théa Dubelaar, Alain Foix, Alain Guédé, Fabienne Kanor, Dany Laferrière, Philippe Mariello, Kettly Mars, Daniel Maximin, Antonia Neyrins, Ernest Pépin, Émeline Pierre, Gisèle Pineau, Simone Schwarz-Bart (presenting the posthumously published book by André Schwarz-Bart, L’étoile du matin), Anique Sylvestre, among others.
