New Book on Spanish and Haitian Creole

Among Iberoamericana/Vervuert’s new publications for 2010 is Luis A. Ortiz López’s El español y el criollo haitiano: contacto lingüístico y adquisición de segunda lengua [Spanish and Haitian Creole: Linguistic Contact and Second Language Acquisition]. Published in their series Lengua y Sociedad en el Mundo Hispánico, this linguistic study reflects on the internal and external processes that affect contact between Haitian Creole and the Spanish spoken in the Dominican Republic in particular along the complex “contact zone” of the border between the two countries.

Luis A. Ortiz López holds a PhD from the University of New Mexico and is a professor of Spanish linguistics and dialectology at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras. He is the author of Huellas etno-sociolingüísticas bozales y afrocubanas (1998). He also edited the collection El Caribe hispánico: perspectivas lingüísticas actuales. Homenaje a Manuel Alvarez Nazario  (1999) and co-edited (with Manuel Lacorte) Contacto y contextos lingüísticos. El español en los Estados Unidos y en contacto con otras lenguas (2005).
