Rita Indiana, Dominican Writer and Singer

Rita Indiana y los Misterios, the contemporary Dominican sensation of 2009, is back with an unplugged concert at Hard Rock Café in the Dominican Republic this coming Thursday, 18 March at 8pm. The Hard Rock Café is located on the northern side of the Plaza Colón [Columbus Square] in Santo Domingo’s colonial zone. Indiana was also chosen as the opening act for a concert by Scottish band Franz Ferdinand in Playa Blanca, Punta Cana, on April 3.

Hailing out of the Dominican Republic, Rita Indiana y los Misterios is being described as “one of the best acts to ever come out of the island.” Although she currently resides on the island, she has lived in New York and Puerto Rico, “which has only enriched her merengue-techno fusion, one of those impossible hybrids ready to take the world by storm.”

Writer, singer, and performance artist Indiana is presently at work writing the screenplay for a film starring and based on the Puerto Rican band Calle 13. She is collaborating with Puerto Rican professor of Communications Noelia Quintero, with whom she previously worked on the making of her video “La hora de volvé,” which Quintero directed. The singer/writer has been nominated for a Cassandra Award as Revelation of the Year 2010.

Rita Indiana, an acclaimed novelist, is the author of works such as Papi (2005) and La estrategia de Chochueca (2003).
