A greenhouse for orchid seedlings established with the assistance of a Taiwanese technical mission was inaugurated in St. Lucia on Monday. The new facility, located on a 2,500m2 site, is the largest orchid greenhouse in the Caribbean, said Republic of China (Taiwan) Ambassador to St. Lucia Tom T.C. Chou. Chou presided over the inauguration ceremony along with St. Lucian officials including Governor-General Dame Peralette Louisy, Minister of Agriculture Ezechiel Joseph, Minister of Tourism Allen Chastanet and Minister of Industry and Commerce Tessa Mangel. In his address, Chou said Taiwan, known as a kingdom of orchids, helped its diplomatic ally build the greenhouse and provide technical guidance at the request of St. Lucia’s government.
