Banco Popular de Puerto Rico announced last week that its traditional televised music special will be dedicated this year to poet Luis Pales Matos. “Palés y la rumba de la esquina” will air on the island’s main commercial channels on Sunday 6 December at 8:00 pm. The show is intended to bring Palés Matos’ work to a new generation of readers. The special, which also will be available from December 7 on DVD and CD, will feature artists like Fofé (from the Circo group), Mima, Willie Rodríguez (from Cultura Profética), Plena Son, Lucecita Benitez and Michael Stuart, as well as people from a variety of fields like Teófilo Torres, artist Antonio Martorell, Noel Luna and Father Angel Darío Carrero, among others. As with previous editions, the funds collected from sales of CDs and DVDs will benefit musical education programs for children and adolescents.
