Belize prepares for National Miss Garifuna Pageant

Proving once more the popularity of beauty pageants throught the Caribbean region, Belize is preparing for this week’s National Miss Garifuna Pageant. The winners of six local pageants held countrywide are going into the final for the National title. The contestants represent the Garifuna communities of Belize City, Belmopan, Dangriga, Hopkins, Seine Bight and Georgetown.The contestants will have to perform traditional Garifuna dances, make presentations before the judges and sit down for an interview. The winner will become a representative of Gairfuna culture throughout Belize. “She will need to like put herself into the Garifuna culture, like 100% we would say, go around to schools and assist maybe in schools, take part in workshops and head the workshops so that she could teach songs, dances, and nursery rhymes in Garifuna. She will need to be very active.”
