The 1st St. Barths Blues Festival will take place in Gustavia on November 5-8, 2009, with free concerts given by well-known artists such as Corey Harris (heroe of Martin Scorsese’s 2003 PBS television series The Blues) and his Rasta blues with African inspiration; James Cotton, a living legend of the blues, from the famous New Orleans Hall of Fame; Phil Wiggins and his acoustic blues; Lonie Brooks, characterized by a style sometimes described as “Voodoo Blues,” which includes elements of Chicago blues, Louisiana blues, swamp pop, and rhythm & blues; and Phil Wiggins, a true master of the acoustic blues harp.
The blues festival coincides with 60th anniversary of Le Select bistro, which will also take place in Gustavia from November 6-8. Rumor has it that Jimmy Buffet will be giving a concert on the dock (Quai du Général de Gaulle) at this bar birthday in tribute to his long-time friend and bistro-owner, Marius, on November 7. Celebrations will also include a steel band from St. Maarten and a screening of a documentary film on Marius.
