Monty Alexander’s Harlem-Kingston Express at Lincoln Center

Back by popular demand! is the way the Lincoln Center is advertizing the return of Monty Alexander to The Allen Room as part of their prestigious jazz series. His performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 2-3, at 7:30 and 9:30. “For nearly forty years, the multi-cultural pianist and bandleader Monty Alexander has artfully blended the rhythms of his native Jamaica with the classic sounds of modern jazz,” the Lincoln Center website explains. “For two evenings, Monty returns to The Allen Room to lead us on an exciting journey from Harlem to Kingston, Jamaica. From Harry Belafonte hits to Bob Marley classics, it’s all what Louis Jordan called ‘The New Calypso Bebop.’”

Scheduled to coincide with Alexander’s performances is a Jamaican Festival on Saturday, October 3, when the Jamaica Tourist Board and Essence magazine, in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, present a free pre-concert Jamaican Festival for all ticket holders, featuring live music, food and beverage samples, gift bags and more. The Festival will take place at the Atrium at Lincoln Center at 5:30pm
