The Center for Body, Mind, and Culture and the French Program in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton Campus seek submissions of abstracts for the Conference on French Cultures of Embodiment to be held on March 25-27, 2010.
The title of this conference conveys a double plurality: First, the diverse styles of embodiment in the plurality of French-speaking cultures that also range far beyond the French territory of Europe, extending into Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Second, the plurality of embodied arts and aesthetic practices in these different French-speaking cultures: dance, music, drama, architecture, fashion, cosmetics, cuisine, but also film, performance, poetry, and other literary genres. This conference will explore both of these pluralist axes to probe the rich and deeply embodied cultures of Francophonie.
Papers may be presented in English or French. Abstracts (250 words) with the title of the proposed presentation should be submitted along with the participant’s name, contact information, title, and academic affiliation. The deadline for submissions is November 2, 2009, and participants will be informed by December 1, 2009.
Send e-submissions to Richard Shusterman at bodymindculture@fau.edu.
