Dr. Leslie François Manigat, professor of International Relations and former president of Haiti, will deliver a lecture, “El futuro posible de Haití” [Haiti’s Possible Future], as part of the Conferencias Caribeñas 5 series at the Institute of Caribbean Studies.The lecture will be held on September 8, 2009, from 1:00 to 3:00pm in Amphitheater 108, Carmen Rivera de Alvarado Building, School of Social Sciences, at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras.
Leslie Manigat has taught world history and international relations at the University of Paris-VIII Vincennes/Sorbonne, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, University of the West Indies in Trinidad, and the University of Caracas (now the Universidad Central de Venezuela). He has published essays on education and history of Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2004, he won the Haiti Grand Prize of Literature given at the Miami Book Fair.
