In view of the tax scandals evolving in the Caribbean and around the world, it is interesting to note that the Netherlands Antilles will sign tax information exchange agreements with Canada and Mexico to ensure more transparency. The agreements will be signed on August 30 in Vancouver , Canada, and on September 1 with Mexico in Los Cabos.
These agreements will provide for full exchange of information on criminal and civil tax matters. The tax agreements with Canada and Mexico are the first in a series of 16 new treaties that the Netherlands Antilles will sign before the end on this year. Alex Rosaria, State Secretary of Finance of the Netherlands Antilles, said that these treaties confirm the Netherlands Antilles’ commitment to transparency in international tax cooperation.
Alex Rosaria is State Secretary of Finance in the de Jongh-el Hage cabinet since April 26, 2006. In this role he is responsible for the overall fiscal policy of the Netherlands Antilles. His responsibilities include the decentralization of the inspectorate of taxes and international fiscal affairs. He is also President of the Task Force in charge of negotiation of tax treaties.
