Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés will be one of the main acts at this year’s International Folk Festival in Getxo (in Spain’s Basque region).Milanés, founding member along with Silvio Rodriguéz and Noel Nicola of the New Cuban Song Movement and winner of the 2006 Latin Grammy award for best Singer-songwriter, will play on the opening day of the festival, which takes place between 3rd-6th September. Also appearing at the event will be Quebec group La Bottine Souriante, whose influences combine traditional music from France and the British Isles, and French ensemble the Orchestre National de Barbés, whose rhythms are inspired by North Africa Maghrib music. Also joining the line-up is musical project “Euskal musika: 25 urte”, in which various Basque artists and groups will partake, such as Oskorri and Mikel Urdangarin, in honour of the festival and its twenty-fifth edition.
