Simone Schwarz-Bart

Simone Schwarz-Bart is 71 years old today. She was born on August 1, 1938 in Guadeloupe. She studied in Pointe-á-Pitre, Paris, and Dakar. Schwarz-Bart’s works include Pluie et Vent sur Télumée Miracle [The Bridge of Beyond, 1972], Ti Jean L’Horizon [Between Two Worlds, 1981], and Ton Beau Capitaine [Your Handsome Captain, 1989]. She also co-authored the novel Un Plat de porc aux bananes vertes  [A Dish of Pork with Green Bananas, 1967) and the six-volume work Hommage à la Femme Noire [1989; published in translation as In Praise of Black Women, 2001] with her husband, award-winning author (Prix Goncourt) André Schwarz-Bart.

  1. the first time i saw that play it was in haiti in 1988 , played by 2 great actors .Max kenol and Myriam . since that i have a great admiration for simone . she’s one of the best women writer and what makes me so proud is was she bring all the haitian culture in her books and specially in ” ton beau capitain ( Handsom captain). and my dream as an actor is to play one day the handsom captain . just to prove her how admirable she is . thank you
