The 34th Annual Caribbean Studies Association Conference 2009 will take place during June 1-5, 2009 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in New Kingston, Jamaica. With a pan-Caribbean perspective, the conference this year “attempts to harness innovative and outward-looking trends” through the theme, Centering the Caribbean in Caribbean Studies. In questioning “What exactly do scholars mean by Caribbean Studies,” the conference will shed light on the diverse and dialogical aspects of Caribbean Studies, the multifarious perspectives on the Caribbean as seen from within and without, as well as multiple standpoints on the ever-shifting parameters of what constitutes “the Caribbean.” The conference will have multiple sessions focusing on the Caribbean from many fields and approaches as well as a Film and Performance track.
