The Palace of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo will host the first International Art Fair in the Dominican Republic, with the participation of artists and art galleries from Europe, North, South and Central America, the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic. More than 35 galleries are scheduled to attend FIART Santo Domingo 2009, which will be held from May 20th to the 24th. The first edition of what organizers hope will become a yearly event will be dedicated to Dominican artist Ivan Tovar. The event will count with the participation of a number of internationally well-known Latin American artists, among them Colombian painter Fernando Botero and fellow painter Pedro Pablo Oliva, winner of the 2006 National Art Prize in his native Cuba.
