May is Haitian Heritage Month in the city of Miami and its start was marked by Mayor Manny Diaz at the celebration of the completion of the Little Haiti Commercial Façade Project by announcing a donation of a solid waste truck donated to Miami’s sister city Port-au-Prince. Each year the City of Miami highlights the Haitian community by hosting several activities in the Little Haiti/Historic Lemon City neighborhood. This year’s activities, which are free and open to the public, include an art exhibit (“Memory, Haitian Art, and the Making of History”) at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, a soccer event, and a Haitian Music Festival.
