Monkey Black, a Dominican rapper and urban artist who was stabbed to death during a bar fight in the San Roque neighborhood in Sant Adrià del Besòs (in Barcelona, Spain) on April 30, is lying in state at the Blandino Funeral Home in Barcelona, before being transferred, this Saturday, to the Dominican Republic.
The 27 year old singer, whose real name is Leonardo Michael Flores Ozuna, received at least two stab wounds, one in the chest and once in the side, which killed him. According to the newspaper El País, the Catalan police (Mossos d’Esquadra) are still searching for two Roma men who fled the scene, leaving behind a mobile phone and their unfinished drinks.
According to Spanish newspaper El País, his death triggered an outpouring of tributes on the social networks, including one from Dominican Culture Minister José Antonio Rodríguez, who expressed public regret over Monkey Black’s death, who was an idol back home.
Flores began singing at age 10, although his career properly kicked off in 2006. He is known for several hits, including Tienen miedo, although his biggest success was a remix of El sol y la playa with US rapper Pitbull. He had moved to Spain in 2009 in an attempt to launch his international career.
