Julieta Venegas Continues the Fight against Gender Violence in Cuba

Julieta-Venegas-en-CubaEFE reports that Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas—who became a goodwill ambassador for Unicef in 2009—has brought to Havana the United Nations’ worldwide campaign to end violence against women. She performed to a packed Covarrubias Hall at the National in a concert that also featured such Cuban artists as Santiago Feliu and Rochy Ameneiro.

According to the article, Venegas told reporters after the show that “I love the people here, I love Cuba. [. . .] The people are so generous, very committed, very devoted, they have a way of listening that is beautiful, it’s the ideal audience.”

About the United Nations Secretary General’s Campaign to End Violence against Women, UNiTE, the writer of songs like “Eres para Mi” (You’re for Me) and “Limon y Sal” (Lemon and Salt) stressed the need to raise awareness on the subject, which, she believes, “is never discussed sufficiently.”

  1. GRACIAS JULIETA VENEGAS POR TU TRABAJO EN CUBA DONDE EL ABUSO EN LOS SALARIOS ES IGUAL PARA AMBOS LOS HOMBRES Y LAS MUJERES: MICROSCOPICAMENTE BAJO!! EL ABUSO EN CONTRA DE LA MUJER ES PARTE DE SU SALARIO, PERO EL ABUSO COLECTIVO
EN CONTRA DEL PUEBLO ES DENIGRANTE. VIVA EL GLORIOSO PUEBLO CUBANO!!!
