During this year’s Art Basel celebration, the “Les Jacmeliens: Haiti Contemporary 2012” art exhibition opens with a VIP reception on Thursday, December 6, at 7:00pm at the Haitian Heritage Museum (HHM), located at 4141 NE 2nd Avenue, Suite 105C, Miami Design District in Miami, Florida. This year’s contemporary exhibition is sponsored by the Haitian Heritage Museum with international curator Michele Frisch, the Director of MUPUNAH (Musée du Pantheon National Haitien), and the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami.

With the three year mark of the Haiti earthquake approaching, the tides are moving towards revitalization…through bricks & mortar, and even the culture of its people, undeniably Haiti’s greatest natural resource. Jacmel, often described as Haiti’s most beautiful city and one of the country’s tourist destinations, is perhaps the place of hope where an art revival is also leading to the county’s revitalization. During this year’s Art Basel celebration, the “Les Jacmeliens: Haiti Contemporary 2012” art exhibition bridges Haiti’s renowned Arts District in Jacmel Haiti with the Arts District of Miami.

“Les Jacmeliens: Haiti Contemporary 2012” debuts a group exhibition that will feature works by various Haitian artists from Haiti—Seide, Dodard, Mathieu, Benjamin, and Mevs. [. . .] Art lovers will be intrigued by the artists’ unique expressions that celebrate the shifting tides in Haiti, its arts scene and its impact in the Diaspora.
