Spanish Clown Emilio Aragón “Miliki” Passes Away

Why am I posting this news item about the death of a Spanish clown? Because Puerto Ricans (and others from the Hispanic Caribbean and Latin America, in general) of several generations, including mine, grew up watching the antics of the celebrated trio of brothers from Spain: “Gaby, Fofó y Miliki.”

Emilio Aragón ‘Miliki’, who died at age 83 today (November 18, 2012), came from a family with a long tradition of circus fame. He was part of the trio “Gaby, Fofó y Miliki,” brothers whose real names were Gabriel, Alfonso and Emilio Aragón. They were made famous with their show “Había una vez un circo” [One upon a Time, There Was a Circus]. The trio was succeeded by the Aragón offspring—Fofito (Alfonso Aragón Jr.), Milikito (Emilio Aragón Jr.), and Rody (Rody Aragón), who carried on the tradition of a long line of beloved clowns.

According to numerous news sources, Miliki died around midnight, surrounded by his family in Madrid. The wake will be held at the La Paz Funeral Chapel in Tres Cantos, Madrid, staring at noon today.
