The simultaneous strikes today (November 14, 2012) which are scheduled to last three days in Spain, Portugal, and Greece, have disrupted the itineraries for Royal Caribbean’s ship “Independence of the Seas.” The strikes have also disrupted air travel as well as public transportation.
Independence of the Seas skipped a stop in Lisbon, Portugal, and stopped in Lanzarote, Spain, instead. Royal Caribbean spokesperson Cynthia Martinez commented on the changes, “We were aware of the upcoming strikes and proactively made changes to some itineraries.”
Independence of the Seas, a 15-deck ship that can accommodate 4,370 passengers, will depart Southampton on November 22, 2012, en route to its seasonal home port in Fort Lauderdale, where it will offer Caribbean voyages from December 2012 through March 2013.
